It is just three days left for Meerut to go to the polls, and BJP candidate Arun Govil was joined by his onscreen wife from Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’ (1987-88) today in Meerut.

Dipika Chikhlia, who played the role of Mata Sita in the hit show, shared a video and photo from Meerut as they campaigned for Arun Govil ahead of the upcoming polls.

Meerut goes to the polls in the second phase of voting, which is April 26.

Dipika was accompanied by Sunil Lahri, who had played the role of Laxman in the original ‘Ramayan’, which was telecast from 1997 to 1998.

Dipika also shared a picture with Arun Govil and Sunil after their campaigning.

Earlier in January, the trio was also invited to the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony, which was attended by many dignitaries, actors, and politicians.

The show was again telecast during the first lockdown in 2020. It was aired on 20 channels in 17 countries and was viewed by over 650 million viewers. And for each episode, DD National earned Rs 40 lakh at that time.

The Meerut Lok Sabha Constituency, situated in Uttar Pradesh, covers parts of Meerut and Hapur districts and is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

Meerut goes to the polls in the second phase of the general elections on April 26, while counting will take place along with the rest of the country on June 4.

Arun Govil is the BJP candidate from Meerut.

In 2014, Rajendra Agarwal beat BSP candidate Mohammad Shahid Akhlak. This year, however, the party has replaced three-time Member of Parliament Rajendra Agarwal with Arun Govil, known for portraying Lord Ram in the '80s TV serial 'Ramayan'. Govil grew up in Meerut and studied there until graduation.

Unemployment, devaluation, and price hikes are some of the issues on the voter's agenda in Meerut for this upcoming election. The electorate's concerns transcend mere political discourse, emphasising the urgency for tangible solutions to long-standing grievances and immediate challenges.
